The end is near!

The end is near!

The end of the semester is right around the corner and Columbia College students are preparing for finals week.  Many students have only a few more tests or projects to do before their finals, and that can be stressful! For those students who are feeling the stress of the end of the semester there are many great things that Columbia College is doing to help.
First of all Columbia College has offices that are available all year round to help students manage their stress and their schoolwork.  The Counseling Services office is available during the weekdays to meet with students and help them develop healthy strategies for coping with stress in their lives.   The writing and math centers on campus are also available during the week to provide tutoring for both subjects should students need a little help outside of class.

There are also a few events coming up that are designed to help student manage the stress of the end of the semester.  Residential life is having and event on April 30th called Hot Mess Express.  This event allows the students to have fun making an absolute mess while having fun with friends and blowing off some steam.  The Student Activities Commission is throwing and event on May 5th, the day before finals start, called Less Stress Fest.  The idea behind Less Stress Fest is to provide students studying for their upcoming finals an opportunity to unwind with relaxing activities, such as: custom soap making, Tai Chi, punching bags bags, massages, free foods, coloring pages and even a puppy petting zoo!

SPOTLIGHT ON: Student Support Services

The Columbia College Student Support Services program is available to qualified day students at the home campus in Columbia, Missouri. Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded TRiO program, administered by the Department of Education, designed to encourage eligible students persevere and complete their college degree.

Participants also have exclusive access to a state-of-the-art computer lab, a study lounge and tutoring and proofreading labs.

Students who may qualify for the program include first-generation college students (meaning neither parent earned a baccalaureate degree), students who meet federal income guidelines and students with documented physical, learning and mental health disabilities.

Coming Home for the Holidays

Coming Home for the Holidays

The change in temperature can only mean one thing: the holidays are just around the corner!

At Columbia College, your student gets a Thanksgiving Break and a Winter Break. Thanksgiving Break takes place from November 19th to November 23rd, while Winter Break lasts from December 14th to January 13th. This time of year can be a stressful one for student, parent, and guardian, especially with the closing of the semester, the frequent bad weather, and the amount of traveling that happens around this time. Below are some tips to help make the transition easier for you and your student!
